There are two selection processes to complete before going through the Propel Flight Academy by Delta. We have listed the high-level steps below for reference. Please scroll through the steps.

Our experienced team of pilot assessors will guide you through a series of activities designed to get to know you and learn more about the skills and attributes you will bring to the Propel Flight Academy by Delta.

 

Your pathway to Delta

Apply to Skyborne via the "Apply Now" button
If your application is successful, you will be invited to take a Skyborne Assessment. If you pass, you will be invited to a 30-minute virtual interview with Skyborne
If successful at the Skyborne assessment and interview stage. you will be invited to a face-to-face Propel Flight Academy interview with Delta
Successful candidates will then attend a Propel Flight Academy by Delta Indoc Class and receive a Delta pilot QJO.
Candidates will then commence their flight training on the Skyborne FAA141 Program until they have completed all of the milestones to the required standards
Once training is complete, you will have the opportunity to apply for a Flight Instructor position at Skyborne to build flight hours
Once 1,500 Total Flight Time has been met, students will then go to a Delta Connection or approved carrier and fly for 42 months or less
You will then join Delta Air Lines as a First Officer

Course Requirements

You will be required to have completed the following before you begin your training with Skyborne:

Applicants must possess an education level equivalent to a U.S. High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Eligible applicants should have zero or limited experience. As we are offering full courses at this time, no licenses or ratings may be held beyond a Student Pilot License.

We are not accepting partial courses at this time.

U.S. Passport, Permanent Resident, Green Card. Green Card holders must register with the TSA at fts.tsa.dhs.gov/home/dod. Refer to the TSA Guide for Green Card Holders for assistance. Foreign visas will not be sponsored.

FAA 1st Class Medical required prior to application.

You must be 18 years of age at time of starting training.

You must be fluent in English – both written and spoken. As a guide, you must be proficient enough to achieve ICAO Level 4 or IELTS Level 5.5 (academic).

All applicants must hold a valid U.S driver's license.

Private Pilot (PPL) - 14 Weeks

The Private Pilot Certification course is broken into three stages.

Stage One begins with a two and a half week ground and self-study course and concludes with your Private Pilot FAA written examination.

Stage Two will be the start of your in-aircraft flight training where you begin to learn the fundamentals skills and techniques necessary to pilot an aircraft.

Stage Three continues to build upon stages one and two, with increased focus on aeronautical knowledge, navigation, night flight and performance take-offs and landings.

Instrument Rating – Nine Weeks

Arguably one of the most important ratings to have. Within this course, you will learn to solely rely on gauges for a successful flight. In the air there are no reference points, flying through clouds and/or foggy weather will inhibit your visibility, knowing how to read gauges effectively ensures a safe flight.

Instrument Stage One focuses on aircraft control and basic instrument navigation.

Instrument Stage Two consolidates knowledge, risk management and aircraft handling skills. Passing your Instrument Stage Two Check results in your second pilot rating, the Instrument Airplane Rating.


Commercial Single-Engine - 14 Weeks

Phase One: You’ll begin in ground school for two weeks where you will study Commercial and Instrument simultaneously. You’ll begin in commercial stage one where your private skills are further exercised and developed. You’ll be challenged with dual and solo cross-country navigation, dual and solo night flight and night navigation as well as be introduced to more advanced maneuvering.


Phase Two: Commercial Stage Two will follow the completion of the Instrument Course. You’ll continue to practice the advanced maneuvers learned in commercial stage one and will continue to solo on longer range flights. Additionally, in Commercial Stage Two, you will return to the Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) for a deeper dive into more advanced instrument flying. Finishing second phase with a stage check.


Phase Three: Concludes with a check ride to earn licensing.

Commercial Multi-Engine – Three Weeks

The Multi-Engine Commercial Additional Class Rating Course challenges you to learn how to properly manage a faster and more complex aircraft. As well as monitor and manage its systems, and most importantly it helps to develop your ability to maintain positive control and accurately pilot a Multi-Engine aircraft with one of its two available engines inoperative. This demanding course uses our advanced Multi-Engine aircraft the Piper Seminole, along with the Redbird AATD to prepare you for your end-of-course stage check.

Certified Flight Instructor – 14 Weeks

Phase One: You will start with a three-week ground school where you will learn about the fundamentals of instruction, levels of learning, human behavior, techniques of instruction, test creation, evaluation, and critique. You will complete two FAA written exams during the ground school (The FIA and FOI exams). 

Phase Two: During your flight training stage, you will learn how to confidently fly the various maneuvers as well as manage student progress and endorse their training when appropriate. With the help of your instructor, you will learn how to develop your own lesson plans and practice delivering your planned training. The course will conclude with your End of Course check ride and the receiving of your FAA Flight Instructor Rating.
